Is gaming clans really necessary to enjoy a game? Once I thought not and that gaming clans were just a bunch of fanatics who took playing games to seriously. That all changed when I got World in Conflict, I couldn't stand the noobs/ heavy arty players in the game and I wanted a more competitive feel where everybody knew what they were doing. So I joined a clan called The Art of Warfare. I thought this clan would practice 24/7 and be like the fanatics I thought clans were but they weren't. They only scheduled 2 one hour practices a week (I play more than that) and they were all great players. What was even better this clan plays other games too, from Battlefield to WOW. Overall the clan is 500+ members so you can always find a game to play with them. I think once you play with a group of players who think like you and know how you play, you can't go back to playing with the raw masses and expect the same kind of results. I achieved many high scores throughout many games, especially wic without stat padding because these guys were simply playing correctly and as a team. I also learned tips and tactics for many games, and they definitely improved my skill. So guys don't hesitate to join a clan, they are basically just a bunch of people to have fun with, much like NPR. There are clans out there who are hardcore that may deter the average player, but there are also clans who just want to have fun and dont require a skill level to get in. Two clans that are like this are The Art of Warfare and another clan which we frequently face in WIC Angels of Death. These clans play multiple games and play new games as soon as they come out (Age of Conan is already being played by TAW). So there are no worries if you want to start playing a different game with them.

While I never liked the original Starcraft. I know many people admired the game and praised it as the greatest RTS to ever be released at the time(it probably was). Now with Starcraft 2 coming out, the new game seems like a rehash of the old one. Most of the units are the same, except for a few unoriginal units (war of the worlds anyone). What is worse the gameplay seems exactly the same. Gather minerals and gas like classical RTS games, build base and destroy enemies. Newer games like COH eliminates dirt farming and makes you cap resource points encouraging less turtling and more immediate action, the game also has a high level of microing because of such factors as cover, tank direction special abilities etc. Another RTS World in Conflict takes a spin on the genre by encouraging team based play and eliminates base building. The game also has a high level of micro because of the limited units controlled: things such as terrain and LOS plays a big role and what the game lacks in skill, it makes up for in teamwork and coordination. From the current information of Starcraft 2, there is no revolutionary gameplay that WIC and COH possess much less what the original SC had to offer. I know a bunch of fanboys are going to ape shit over this blog but I honestly don't give a fuck.
